The May meeting will be held in the Craft Room at the Oak Ridge Civic Center at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, May 15.

The program will be planning for the upcoming beginner clinic that will be held June 4 through 9. Please attend the meeting if you plan to help with the clinic as an instructor or safety boater, or if you have gear to lend to the students. If you have signed up as a student in the clinic, the meeting could answer questions that you have.

If you are interested in signing up for the clinic, click on "ETWC Homepage" in the upper left, then click on "Action" on the left side, and then click on "Summer Clinic" on the right.

The Annual Obed River Cleanup is Saturday, May 19.

The National Park Service's Obed Wild & Scenic River unit is holding its river cleanup on Saturday, May 19, 2012. It will start at 8:30 am Eastern Time in the Visitor Center in Wartburg, and will end around noon with a Volunteer Appreciation lunch.

One way you could test your physical shape for paddling whitewater is to paddle a few miles on the lake to see how you do. You wouldn't want to risk a re-injury half way down a river and have to bail out/walk out. Your paddling friends would probably want you to "know" you can complete the river before attempting it.

Josh,
Is roll pratice at the pool or at the park this week? The planer says at the pool but I overheard someone say it may be moved to the park.
Also, I can not wait for the clinic, I am ready to be educated, and get wet ofcourse.

I really need to get back into paddling because im getting way out of shape ...

Those of you that know me (Mark and Ts friend that worked the clinic and ran a few beginners down the hiwassee) know that i used to paddle a ton and i used to paddle the deadly stuff.

not into that anymore.

Due to a few injuries this past 'winter' (if you can call it that) i need a test run to see how my shoulders and wrist are going to hold up.

if anyone is running some hiwassee (looking for at least one class III on a river) type stuff i would love to go.

Unfortunately, until i make a few runs and check out my 'healed' injuries, i wont be able to take my usual safety boater / sweep spot .... ill be another one to watch out for so i dont drown.

Also ... im selling my creeker. Dagger Nomad 8.5 Red. It is about 5 years old, but has maybe a dozen - 18 runs on it ... none in the last 3 years (hence why im selling it). $600 obo. This boat has been stored inside its entire life, so no UV breakdown.

New State Law signed today protecting Rafting outfitterss

Another new law provides new protections for white water rafting companies.

The measure protects operators from lawsuits over injuries or even deaths when the rafter can be shown at fault.

East Tennessee has a number of white water rafting companies. There's more than a dozen alone in the Hartford area of Cocke County.

Senators Overbey and Yager are behind this new law.
