  Morgan County 6th Graders Outing
Posted by: Bottomsup - 02-24-2020, 07:05 PM - Forum: ETWC Posts/Threads - No Replies

The National Park Service’s Obed Wild & Scenic River unit will again be sponsoring the  Morgan County 6th Graders Program. This will be the 9th consecutive year for this award winning program and the ETWC has provided volunteers for the water portion every year. If you would like to build up some great “kayaking karma”, come join us as we work with the 6th graders and introduce them to the excitement and beauty of our natural flowing rivers. Call me @ 865-882-2383 (no text) and leave a message or email me @ gardenlily@att.net  if you can volunteer some time with us. And guess what...we have as much fun as the kids do! The dates are: Mon May 11 - Fri May 15 and Mon May18 with potential make up days on May19 & 20. More detailed info on the program will come later. Look forward to hearing from you...

REMINDER: Club meeting this Tuesday 25th at 7:30 at the Casual Pint Hardin Valley. Darren is going to run us through a couple of fun boater rating programs. We'll see how well those programs predict what rivers we should be running and review the relative difficulty of local East Tennessee runs. If you want to do dinner ahead of time at Don Gallos next door at 6:00, respond to this or get in touch with me somehow... or just show up.  Smile

Camper Trailer Needed For Boating Tour Mar-Apr 2020
Posted by: T4eresa - 11-23-2019, 04:59 PM - Forum: ETWC Posts/Threads - No Replies

Hi paddlers!  I'm a Tennessean who now lives in Oregon but I'm bringing my sweetie back to TN this coming spring for a paddling tour, and we're hoping to rent a camper trailer from someone in the boating community.  We'll be there in time for the ALF (2nd week of Mar) and then stay until the apples bloom down at the Chattooga (Apr).  Please contact me if you have or know of a camper that won't be in use this coming spring.  We're just two humans (not pets) and the boats go on the truck, camper is just for a warm/dry place to sleep.  Also come paddle with us!  But I'll post more about that when I know where we'll be...  Rolleyes

Details for ETWC Annual Christmas Party

ETWC Annual Christmas Party!

Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 6:30 PM.

Location: Sam Suffern’s (Message me for address)
The club will provide turkey, ham, wine, beer, soft drinks, tableware, plates, cups, and rudimentary condiments.  Attendees should bring a dish to pass around. This results in the pot-luck feast from heaven…

We’ll have a business meeting somewhere along the way; to elect officers, schedule roll practice for the season, decide which charitable donations we’ll make for the year, and whatever else Mark and the Board feel is needed.

We’ll also have a gift exchange. Basically, this is an opportunity to steal from your friends without guilt.  If you want to participate, bring a wrapped gift.  Gifts need to be nice; something in the $20-up range.  A handy guideline is to bring something you would enjoy taking home (because, given our rules, you might!). There will be a review of ETWC-specific rules before it begins; these have evolved over the years to keep a lid on the mayhem.

  Nanty Trip 9/21
Posted by: Darren Price - 09-19-2019, 08:57 AM - Forum: ETWC Posts/Threads - No Replies

I will be leading this weekend's beginner's trip which will take place on the Nantahala River in western NC.   The plan is to meet at the Patton's Run put-in by 11:00 am.  Boats will be unloaded and the shuttle will be run.

If you plan to participate (beginners and experienced boaters alike) PLEASE communicate your intentions (no later than Thursday evening) by replying to this email, posting on the form or by text (865) Seven 42-4136.   If no interest is shown, the trip will likely be cancelled.

If the trip is a go, there will be a group meeting at Fort Sanders West at 8:00 AM to carpool to the Nantahala.  We usually remain at the NOC after the trip is complete to eat dinner and as such we get back late (typically 9:00 PM).

A couple of notes for boaters who have never paddled the Nantahala, the water is cold and unlike the Hiwassee, most of the paddling is in the shade.   Regardless of the air temperature, warm clothing is necessary.  Secondly, all boaters must have a river pass.  River passes can be purchased at various outfitters or the NOC.  Prices have increased from last year, I know the season pass is $10, not sure about the day passes (last years cost $1 that has likely increased to $2).  The carpool group will stop and purchase river passes prior to arrival at the Pattons Run put-in.
