  Beginner trip Saturday July 21
Posted by: Ian - 07-16-2018, 05:56 PM - Forum: ETWC Posts/Threads - No Replies

Weather permitting, we are going back to the Nantahala for this weekend's beginner's trip. The plan is to meet at the Patton's Run put-in between 10:30 and 11:00 am. We'll run shuttle from there. For those that would like to car pool we will meet at Fort Sanders West at 8:00 am. If you plan to participate (beginners and experienced boaters alike) please let me know by replying to this post or sending an email to nai.nosredna@gmail.com by Thursday evening July 19. Also let me know where you plan to meet the group (FSW or the put-in).

  Beginner Trip
Posted by: PeterF - 07-12-2018, 10:25 AM - Forum: ETWC Posts/Threads - No Replies

This week's beginner trip will be on Sunday, July 15th, on the Hiwassee, lead by Pete Feist.  We can carpool from Fort Sanders West parking lot at 8:30 and meet at the Hiwassee Put In by 10:30. Sunday has better weather.

I will send an email out providing the details. Please contact me by phone, (86five-59nine-425one), by e-mail, or respond to the  forum if you will be attending the trip and if you would like to carpool. It is important to know who and how many are going.

  July 7 Beginner's Trip
Posted by: Zinggds - 07-04-2018, 09:58 AM - Forum: ETWC Posts/Threads - Replies (1)

This weekend's beginner's trip will take place on the Nantahala River.  Ian is going to be out of town and as such I  will lead the trip in his place.  The plan is to meet at the Patton's Run put-in between 10:30 and 11:00 am.  Boats will be unloaded and the shuttle will be run.  If you plan to participate (beginners and experience boaters alike)  please communicate your intentions by replying to me (zinggds@gmail.com).  If there are no replies the trip will likely be cancelled.

If the trip is a go, there will be a group meeting at Fort  Sanders West at 8:00 to carpool to the Nantahala. Again, if you don't communicate that you want to participate in the carpooling and you are late we may leave without you. Traditionally, we eat dinner at the NOC after paddling, if you participate in the carpool you need to keep this in mind.

A couple of notes for boaters who have never paddled the Nantahala, 1) a pass is required to paddle the river.  If you are driving yourself to the Nantahala you can pick up a pass at Brookside Campground or the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) the cost is $1.00 for the day or $5.00 for the season.  We can also pickup up day passes at the NOC when we run shuttle.  2) the water is cold and unlike the Hiwassee, most of the paddling is in the shade.   Regardless of the air temperature, very warm clothing is necessary.

In summary, if you are going to participate you need to let me know preferable by Thursday evening June 28 , I also need to know if you plan to carpool. Finally remember you need WARM (non-cotton) clothing.

Hope to see you this weekend.

  June 30 ETWC Beginner's Trip
Posted by: Zinggds - 06-29-2018, 09:53 AM - Forum: ETWC Posts/Threads - Replies (2)

The venue for the June 30 Beginner's trip has been changed from the Nantahala to the Barnett to Jett section of Clear Creek.  The Barnett to Jett section of Clear Creek is slightly less challenging than the Nantahala and the water temperature is not a concern.  We will meet at the Oak Ridge Civic Center at 10:00 or at the Wartburg Ranger Station by 11:00.

If you plan to participate please indicate your intention (zinggds@gmail.com) and also indicate if you plan to be at the Civic Center or plan to go directly to the Ranger Station.

This is a rare opportunity, Clear Creek is rarely runnable in the summer.  Hope to see you on the river?

Rick
